DBA is helping the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) ensure air travel safety and convenience for all, through a long-term donation initiative.
The disruptions in air travel have also affected other industries that rely on mobility in the conduct of their businesses. Consequently, the government is no exception. Public offices are always looking for additional ways to perform its mandate, which is to deliver basic services to the public. In crises like this, both the public and private sectors should work hand in hand to ease the difficulties brought about by this pandemic.
DBA is one of many businesses that heeded the government’s call for help. In fact, recognising the challenge of government employees working from home led the company to extend assistance to one government agency–the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Aviation and tourism are two of the industries severely impacted by the pandemic. Travel restrictions crippled global aviation, which resulted in several air carriers filing for bankruptcy, leaving millions jobless. Although vaccines have already been rolled out, the discovery of new variants has resulted in extensions of air travel restrictions and bans.
In the Philippines, air travel has been restrained by protocols that led to numerous cancellations and flight adjustments. Hence, leaving passengers with only three options: refund, re-book, or placing their tickets in a credit shell, otherwise known as a travel fund.
Last August 5, 2021, DBA President and CEO, Mr. Darlow Parazo, personally handed over several laptop units to Atty. Wyrlou E. Samodio, Chief Legal Officer of the CAB. Members of PRADs and several DBA staff who were working on site witnessed the official turnover of the laptop units held at the DBA Clark office.
The CAB, under the able leadership of its Executive Director, Atty. Carmelo L. Arcilla, is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). They are tasked by law to regulate the economic aspect of civil aviation in the country.
Through its Legal Division, the CAB is the primary agency that implements DOTC-DTI Joint Administrative Order No. 1, s.2012, better known as the Air Passenger Bill of Rights (APBR). One of the first in the world, the APBR provides for the following basic rights:
One of the CAB’s functions is the enforcement of civil aviation laws and regulations that promote and protect consumer (passenger) rights. This includes extending assistance to passengers thru the presence of Passenger Rights Action Desks (PRADs) in different airports nationwide, and resolving complaints.
The donated laptop units will be used by the Transportation Regulation Officers of PRADs to address queries, concerns, and resolve passenger complaints while working at home.
Industries now rely heavily on mobility and digital technology to continue the delivery of services to their clients.
Throughout our eight years’ operating in the country, DBA has been regularly sending executives to and from Australia. We have also been inviting stakeholders, clients, and investors from Australia to visit and strengthen our beautiful client relationships.
Aside from Australia, DBA has also been continuously sending staff to Singapore and the US for training and development. This need for air travel has made us particularly concerned with air travel safety and efficiency, especially in our current circumstances.
The donated laptop units are part of DBA’s efforts to support not only air travel convenience, but also safety and efficiency. By enhancing CAB’s digital capability, we are also ensuring the convenience of our staff and clients who travel a lot.
Our long-term donation initiative with CAB has already spanned five (5) years, and we are not stopping anytime soon. In fact, our commitment is for DBA to continue helping the agency ensure air travel safety and convenience in our own creative way through capacity building means, such as mobility and digital automation.
